#PrimarkMeets Alice Liveing
So, you’ve seen the collection, you’ve started following her on Instagram and bagged yourself the collection from store. Now all the running around is done, take some time to cool down, chill out and get to know Alice a little bit better, as she shares her plans for the year ahead and advice for shaking up your fitness goals.
Hey Alice! What was it about collaborating with Primark that got you most excited?
What I love about Primark is that it’s accessible for everyone. You could be a young student, or a mum, or my grandma and you could find something at Primark that suits you. Also price wise everyone can shop there and still look fashionable. My whole ethos with exercise is that it should be accessible for all and collaborating with Primark really allows that. My range can be for someone like me who trains quite a lot, or it can be someone who just wants the athleisure look for the weekend.
What pieces from the collection should everyone have in their gym bag, and why?
I absolutely love the ombre grey track set, that comes with a long zip-up top, leggings and a matching crop top, that for me is super stylish and looks good for anything. You could wear that to lunch, or as a nice weekend outfit, or it can be perfect for going to the gym. Another favourite is the khaki mesh leggings and matching crop top.
How would you describe your personal gym style?
I like to keep things neutral, so I love the khakis, greys, and blacks, but I like to add a pop of colour which is why I love the bold red within the collection. Just adding a feminine touch to a gym outfit is really nice. I tend to wear leggings and a crop top when I work out, so I love that there’s are lots of matching styles in this collection.
What part of your gym kit can’t you live without?
Leggings! I’m a leggings girl. I love a set of good fitting leggings, and I think they can make anyone look amazing.
Do you dress for the gym according to your mood, or the workout you’re doing that day?
It really depends on how I’m feeling. Some days I might just want to throw a really big top on over my leggings if I’m not feeling great, or if I’m feeling fab I might just go crop top and leggings. If I’m doing core HIIT style training I tend to go for just a crop top and leggings, but if I’m weight training I don’t tend to get that hot and sweaty, so I can wear a nice top or even the long sleeved top over my outfit.
What is your advice for someone who wants to shake up their fitness in 2018?
I would say find something that you enjoy and don’t be over ambitious, just be realistic, set yourself some goals and don’t overdo it. I think often people start in January and plan to go to the gym every day, and then they slowly realise that’s just not going to be realistic. So I think you need to have easy, attainable goals, start off slowly and gently work yourself into a fitness routine. You’ve got to find something that you enjoy.
With fitness being your job as well as your hobby, do you like the athleisure look for our downtime, or do you prefer to change it up?
I love athleisure. Often I’m running from the gym to a meeting and I want to look presentable, but at the same time I don’t want to be carrying three changes of clothes with me, so it’s really important that my outfits are able to go from the gym floor to a breakfast, to a meeting and be transitional. I love that the collection includes zip-up tops that you can throw on over your kit, or you could add a nice jumper that will match the leggings and then it works for different environments.
How important do you think mindfulness is as part of a healthy mind, rather than just having a healthy body?
I think mindfulness is massively important. It’s something that plays a huge part in my own lifestyle. I think it’s really important that you don’t overlook the fact that rest and stress can have a huge impact on the body, it can really affect your training and the way that you eat. So incorporating mindfulness, having the ability to be able to de-stress ourselves, and rest and relax is key to having a really good, healthy fitness regime.
Do you have any personal fitness goals for 2018?
I just want to try new things. I did a boxing course recently and I absolutely loved it, so I think I’m going to try and get into boxing next year. I find it a really good stress reliever, and it’s really important for me that I don’t get stuck in my ways with training, so mixing things up with a new skill is going to be really exciting for me. Yes, I’m definitely going to try some boxing next year.
