The Re:Mark: Travel Bug
As a fashion journalist travel comes with the territory, for events, fashion week, research trips and trend reporting. But is it all it’s cracked up to be? It’s the only thing in the world that costs you money, but makes you richer! And that’s why I LOVE it!
But as a 21-year-old graduate, the first time I booked a work trip I found the whole thing pretty daunting. Flights, hotels, cabs, transfers – what if something went wrong; what if I booked the wrong flight, got delayed and I missed my connection, or I couldn’t find my transfer at the other end, let along navigate my way to the hotel?
I needn’t have worried though, because travelling is really pretty simple. And rest assured the more trips you do, the easier it gets. All you need to do is book the flight, find a place to stay at the other end and then get yourself to the airport. Simples.
I did actually book my hotel for the wrong month once, but all was well at the other end thankfully! Major rookie error.
Here at Primark HQ we are all avid travellers and discuss (or should I say fantasise) about our up-coming trips daily. We talk about all the best kept secrets, you know the best local restaurants, the tucked away private apartments that are simply idyllic, and the items we've bought to wear in each particular destination.
That’s one of my favourite things about travelling – the wardrobe you can wear while you’re there, as different colours and silhouettes work better in hotter climates. Those neon pom poms don’t look so out of place in Ibiza, or that sunset yellow Kaftan in Morocco.
So where, oh where should I go on my next trip? Do I keep it simple and head back to that favourite sun-filled land I go to every year with friends, to revisit that restaurant and take the boat out to that island? Or do I embrace the adventure and go all Bear Grylls, travel a little further afield and experience a deserted island, brace myself for a safari, or road trip it around the US?
I’m pretty big on the jet set chic thang too. I’m that smug person at the airport with new luggage, a personalised travel wallet and matching passport cover - but don’t hate me too much, it’s all down to the fact that I’m an organised neat freak. I’m also that person who likes to completely zone out on a flight, catch up on my latest reading, podcasts and movies so my tech travel kit is an essential. And if you need any holiday reading inspo just check out what’s on Emily Murray’s, from The Pink House fame, book shelf.
So get ready to skip out the office, pack all the essentials and then shed those layers, it’s time to fully participate in high summer times. Don’t forget your beauty essentials though as you know once that healthy sun-kissed glow kicks in your poolside looks are going to be on fleek!
