The Re:Mark: That Disney Magic!
First it was the remake of The Jungle Book, then Beauty and the Beast and there are even rumours of The Little Mermaid making a comeback too (oh…please be true!). As Disney continues to remake our childhood faves, and each one being a bigger success then the last, I’ve noticed the Hollywood magic making an impact on our fashion choices too. Are we all yearning for a 'happily every after' or just trying to make that nostalgia last longer?
If you haven't been swept off your feet by all things Beauty and the Beast in the last couple of weeks, where have you been? I mean, forget the film for a second, our cute little Chip mug is enough to make even the hardest of hearts melt - so much so that little Chip sold out within days, went viral and caused a shopping frenzy, came back into stock and immediately sold out again! If you managed to get your hands on him, then keep him close, he’s still getting used to his new found celebrity status and needs looking after - everyone’s after a piece of him!
But it’s not just the oh-so-sweet moments that we’re craving. The fact that the sunshine yellow prom dress makes an appearance at the height of Beauty and the Beast’s romance isn’t just a coincidence. The dress is a show stopper and grabs our attention, it also symbolises the moment Belle realises her true happiness and her love for the Beast is in full bloom. It’s that positivity, joy and clarity linked to the colour yellow that makes that dress so memorable.
And it’s not the first iconic yellow dress we’ve seen this season? Let’s not forget Emma Stone’s signature dancing dress in La La Land – another film that warmed our hearts and made us think anything is possible if you allow yourself to dream. Thank you Hollywood!
Colour continues to play a lead role in this season’s fashion trends too, adding that optimism into our wardrobes and homes – check out our Out of Africa trend if you need some inspo. I expect yellow to reach its peak just in time for high summer so prepare yourself for plenty more of Belle beauts! In the meantime, the pink palette showing no signs of slowing down. After dominating the high street for both men’s and womenswear, it now gains momentum for homeware too – read what our lovey guest editor Emily Murray from award-winning interior blog The Pink House had to say about bringing pink into the home.
But it’s not just about apparel. Beauty flashes back to the 90s with a colourful make-up collection inspired by our fav childhood Troll dolls. Move over unicorns and mermaids, it’s all about the rainbow haired Trolls now as they inform a collection of hair chalk, glitter sprays, body gel and eye shadows – basically its #beautygoals right there!
I can only imagine the hype if The Little Mermaid remake comes to fruition. With red being the colour of passion, desire and love and Aerial’s luscious locks destined to become the most copied – not to mention little Sebastian certain to be the most wanted crab around – nostalgia's future looks red hot!
