The Re:Mark: Stationery Addict
On a Sunday afternoon you’re most likely to find me at home at my desk indulging in a bit of writing. My dining table will be covered in the weekend papers and magazines, coffee firmly in hand and my flat will be completely silent apart from my new podcast obsession – current favourite being Emma Gannon’s Ctrl Alt Delete - if you’re not already hooked, you soon will be. Maybe it’s just a tranquil version of Sunday night fear, to get a head start on next week’s workload, nonetheless I couldn’t get through it without my secret addiction – I’m talking all things stationery and tech, of course.
Sometimes I wonder if I’m in the minority of people who like to write alone at home. Writers are renowned for spending their days in cafes, Macbook proudly on the table and steaming latte in hand – I think we have Carrie Bradshaw to blame for this epidemic, but you can’t go far these days for people furiously working on their laptop. Perhaps writers prefer to have company while they sit with an empty page, rather than be all alone with a flashing cursor. Personally I prefer it to be serene.
All writers have their own routine and stationery saviours, or desktop objet d’art if you will, to get them through huge workloads and tight deadlines. For me it all starts with coffee, caffeine is my BFF, the book I’m currently reading can always be found close by, along with a stash of unread but oh-so-wanted fashion mags. But the items that make the most difference are the ones that make my life easier. Those little things I never knew I needed until I had them, and now I can’t survive without.
Truth is – I’m a stationery addict! And always have been. For any of you already au fait with our Primarket section in-store you'll know what I'm talking about! Stationery and tech are life giving and anything pink, gold or marble definitely has my seal of approval.
Who knew how useful a power bank would be? And with so many colours to choose from (have you seen the metallic collection?) I can buy a new one each season. And I mean, how good would those copper headphones look on an Instagram flat lay? From paper clips to notebooks, daily planners, happiness journals, and everything else in between – if its aesthetically pleasing, looks the part, and matches my current mood – I’ve gotta have it. And NOW!
Despite being a digital editor sometimes I just have to go back to analogue. There's just something so satisfying about scoring items off your to-do-list that makes that pen and paper so worthwhile. I’m such a perfectionist when it comes to buying stationery though, that I’m still hunting for my perfect 2017 diary - oh hi March! Looks like I’ll be getting the May – May edition this year. #girlsbossfail
Next Sunday I’ll be back at my desk, living room windows open to let in the springtime air, and no doubt I’ll be listening to podcasts back-to-back. My to-do-list will be ever longer, next week's diary will be filling up, and my mobile will be quickly running out of battery. Luckily though, I’ll have everything I need for a demanding week ahead all within arm’s reach. And for anything I’m missing there’s always Primarket.
