The Re:Mark: Get The Dress Code
I hold my hands up. I’m guilty. Guilty of rushing out to buy a new dress as soon as the sun comes out. Truth is, none of the good dresses stick around for long, and they’re all sold out once I manage to get my act together. I should really be buying them as soon as they come into store in the cold, sad months of February to ensure I have a good stock come summer. However, as I’ve managed to epically fail with future fashion planning this year (please tell me I’m not the only one?), I’m panic buying throughout May in the hope I can swish my skirt all the way to September.
I pride myself on being organised and ready for most fashion eventualities in life; sunglasses always in bag next to umbrella, mobile always charged, shellac mani at all times so nails are always on fleek, and a pen and paper in my handbag like the good journalist that I am.
However, when it comes to summer I seem to forget to pre-plan, coordinate my wardrobe and get ready for the warmer, brighter months ahead. I mean, it’s not like summer arriving is a surprise (mind you, in London it can be…), I look forward to it all year, so why aren’t I ready? Currently I’m in a bit of wardrobe flux, warmer weather is on the horizon but my smug winter wardrobe’s still staring me in the face each morning. It’s time for a change.
The one item that makes you ready in a second has the be the dress. No need to worry about separates and what goes with what, this is a one-stop-shop outfit. All you need to worry about is which dress to choose. It allows for lie-ins on those sunny mornings, keeps ironing to a minimum, and makes the after work outfit change a thing of the past, no need when you're already dressed to impress. If you missed out on that gingham dress then fear not as I‘m here to tell you, there are plenty more options a-coming your way.
I have visions of hot summer days, wearing a long floaty gown accessorised by flat leather sandals, hoop earrings and a cross body bag. And yet not one single maxi or midi dress is hanging in my wardrobe. If it’s not covered in palm prints, sitting off the shoulder, or a shirt dress with a twist, I’m just not interested. And since the blazer is making a major comeback, read how you can follow suit here, I’m thinking a longer-line blazer slung over a summer dress could be the perfect way to dress it up, especially if it has gold military button detailing – I can see them glistening in the summer sun now.
I fell in love with ‘La La Land’ earlier this year, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. That yellow dress of dreams and all that Cali sunshine. Book me a one-way ticket, right now. Here at Primark we have our very own show stopping yellow maxi in store, keep a look out for our editorial.
If you and the little lady in your life are big fans of the mini-me trend, then you’ll already be in agreement that twinning is winning. Now that my shopping list is primed and ready, I'm off to hit the shops - all I have to do now is hope that summer sun makes an appearance sooner rather than later. But if not at least I’m already prepped for next year.
