The Re:Mark: Wardrobe Woes
The party is well and truly over. The Christmas party that is. It’s January. The Monday of the months. It’s grey, it’s cold and you’re broke! If you're struggling to get to grips with the ‘New Year, new you’ attitude your Instagram feed keeps telling you about, when quite frankly deciding what to wear each morning is challenge enough, then here are some simple ways to survive dressing during the most loathed month of the year.
The sparkle of Christmas and December seems to have worn off and now you feel like you have nothing to wear, right? Those sequins and high shine metallics just don’t work when it comes to office wear or brunch. Plus, your fave jeans of 2017 just don’t quite cut the mustard anymore, and don’t fit quite as well either, ahem!
Well, you’re in luck because January means the start of the menswear fashion weeks. London Fashion Week Men's has just finished after a quick three days this season, and the fash pack are now in Milan. We all know that menswear fashion trends move at a slower pace than women’s, which makes them that bit easier to digest.
Hot brights, bold checks and voluminous silhouettes are all appearing as key trends from the men’s catwalks. So why not try a new colourway or bold print to boost your mood? Outerwear is the best way to inject newness to your winter wardrobe, after all we’re bound to be wrapped up til March, so let your coat do the talking. Our homage to 90s Sport ticks all of the Jan boxes; primary colours, checked shirts, and super comfy loungewear. Perfection!
But if treating yourself to a cheeky purchase isn’t an option til payday, then start with a wardrobe detox; How many pieces at the back of your wardrobe have you forgotten about? What can you up-cycle? And what can you sell to ease the January spending slump?
For those of you that feel that clearing out your wardrobe is too much effort this early into the year, then start off small. I was once told that if you create a good enough impression with your face, most people don’t even notice what you’re wearing. And as someone who tends to rotate the same looks week on week, this way of thinking seriously appeals to me!
With that in mind, I’m choosing to team winter’s hottest hat trend with my favourite make up statement each morning - a beret and a bold lip. Red, plum or pink are my go tos for both, but when in doubt always go for the black beret and red lip – it’s a winning combination to boost both your mood and your look!
