The Interview: Fashion Buyer
Meet Sarah, our babein’ buyer who collaborates with external brands and licensees to bring a touch of magic to our womenswear offer. Most recently, the Yorkshire-born beauty worked with Disney to create a collection for spring 2018, which celebrates all the classic characters.
The must-have collection is infused with serious nostalgia, peppered with nods to current trends, and full of need-now pieces that won’t break the bank. Sarah gave us five, to chat through the collection and show us how to style it up for maximum impact. Come say hi…

1. What do you do at Primark?
I’m the assistant buyer on the womenswear licensed department, which means I work with designers from licensing companies, like Disney, to build amazing product. I’m involved from the very start of the design process, where I try to combine current trends with branded characters, to make the final piece as fashion-forward as possible. I work across all product areas including sweatshirts, T-shirts, swimwear, and denim – to name a few!

2. How did you collaborate with Disney on the spring 2018 collection?
We started by sitting down to pull together inspirational mood boards that reflected how we wanted the collection to look. The designers worked on a range of pieces which included key season details – for example stripes and embroidery – to ensure everything looked as on trend as possible. I made sure we featured a range of Disney characters, as everyone has a different view on what they think is classically Disney!

3. What's the best part of your job?
I love clothes, so I’d have to say being around clothes all day long! Working on license can be really fun, too, as there are so many cute and fashionable things you can do with the different characters.

4. Which pieces from the collection do you need?
I love the Mickey bag – it’s a really nice nod to Disney without being too obvious! The little Marie camisole is super cute too!
5. Who is your favourite Disney character and why?
I’d have to say Donald Duck. When I was 4, I went to Disney Land Paris and followed Donald around the cafe and held onto his tail for about 2 hours, getting in the way of everyone else’s photos whilst doing so! Yep I’m that annoying child in your Disneyland photos – sorry!
