Primark’s Packaging Optimisation Programme Wins at Supply Chain Excellence Awards

    The Supply Chain Excellence Awards have named Primark’s Packaging Optimisation Programme as the winner of the ‘Environmental Improvement’ award at a ceremony in London on 5th November. This award recognises the work of Primark’s Packaging Optimisation Programme, which has contributed to a reduction in CO2 emissions across its whole supply chain as a result of less packaging being produced, transported and processed as waste.

    Primark announces fivefold increase in its Sustainable Cotton Programme

    Primark has today announced a significant expansion of its Sustainable Cotton Programme, with plans to train more than 160,000 independent cotton farmers in sustainable farming methods across three of its key sourcing countries by the end of 2022. The move increases the number of farmers enrolled in the programme to more than five times the current size. The expansion marks an important part of the retailer’s ongoing commitment to minimising its impact on the environment and bringing more sustainably-sourced cotton to customers at affordable prices.

    Primark launches its first range of jeans made with 100% sustainable cotton

Produced in three different washes (indigo, black and light blue), the women’s skinny jeans will be sold in stores across all markets, at a cost of £13/€17.     Paul Lister, responsible for Primark’s Ethical Trade and Environmental Sustainability Team, said: “Five years on from the Rana Plaza building collapse in Bangladesh, Primark continues to support those who were affected and over the period has contributed a total of over $14 million in aid and compensation. In June 2017 Primark signed the 2018 Transition Accord, reaffirming Primark’s commitment to collaborate with other brands, factory owners, NGOs, trade unions and the Government of Bangladesh to bring about sustainable positive change in the Bangladeshi garment industry.”
