People and production resources

Here you can access a selection of resources that the Primark Ethical Trade and Environmental Sustainability Team uses in its work with factory management and workers to help drive improvements in their factories.

At Primark, we are very selective about who we will and won’t work with. To make it onto Primark’s approved factory list, each factory is vetted to internationally-recognised standards set out in the Primark Code of Conduct. The Code covers areas such as pay, employment policies and health and safety. Once approved, it’s the job of our Ethical Trade and Environmental Sustainability Team, a group of more than 100 experts based in key sourcing countries, to monitor compliance. They audit every factory at least once a year, sometimes more, to check whether international standards are being met.

The Primark Code of Conduct is the backbone of our Ethical Trade and Environmental Sustainability Programme. Every factory must commit to meeting it before we’ll work with them. In some countries we have found that factory workers struggle to understand formal, written Codes of Conduct. To make the Primark Code of Conduct accessible for all workers, we partnered with local experts, NGOs and designers, and asked workers to design posters that illustrate some of the key principles set out in our Code of Conduct. The posters depict key principles from the Code using pictures so that they can easily be understood by all workers. These are available to factories to display for workers and use in training.

A selection of posters are available for download here in English:
