How to measure yourself:

Taking accurate measurements is key to finding the right fit. Stick to the following steps to measure yourself with ease and precision.

Tools needed:

  • Tape measure: A flexible one works best.

  • Mirror: Helps make sure the tape is straight

  • A friend (optional): For hard-to-reach areas.

How to measure:

Neck

Wrap the tape around the base of your neck. Make sure the tape is snug but not tight, leaving a finger’s width of space for comfort.

Chest

Stand naturally and measure the fullest part of your chest, typically just under the armpits. Keep the tape level and avoid pulling it too tight.

Waist

Measure around your waistline, just above your belly button. For an accurate measurement, wrap the tape snugly around this area without sucking in your stomach.

Hips

Measure around the widest part of your hips and butt. Keep the tape horizontal and make sure it doesn’t dip at the back.

Inseam

Measure from the top of your inner thigh down to your ankle bone. For accuracy, wear shoes and stand straight, or ask a friend to help.

Sleeve length

Start at the point where your shoulder meets your arm. Run the tape down your arm, over the elbow, and to the wrist bone. Keep your arm slightly bent for precision.

Hacks for accurate measurements

  • Avoid measuring over thick clothing; wear a fitted shirt or measure directly on the skin.

  • Don’t pull the tape too tightly or leave it too loose—it should rest comfortably against your body.

  • Stand upright and relaxed while measuring to avoid skewed results.

  • Double check your measurements for consistency.

  • For footwear, try shoes on with the socks you intend to wear them with where possible.

FAQs

How do I convert my US size to a UK size?

To convert your US women's clothing size to UK size, you usually add 4 to your US size. For example, if you're a US size 8, your UK size would be a 12. Keep in mind that this conversion can vary slightly depending on the brand.

What is a size 6 in EU?

A US women’s size 6 is equivalent to an EU 38.

What is size 38 in US clothes?

A size 38 is typically a US size 6 in clothing. Keep in mind that this conversion can vary slightly depending on the brand.

What do I do if I'm between sizes?

If your measurements fall between two sizes, consider the type of fit you prefer and the garment’s intended use:

  • Ordering the larger size: If you want a looser fit, size up and get your pieces tailored to your exact dimensions.

  • Ordering the smaller size: For a tighter fit, size down.

  • Casualwear: Go for the larger size for a relaxed fit and extra comfort.

  • Formalwear: Pick the smaller size for a tailored, snug look, but make sure there’s no restriction in movement.

  • Stretch clothing: Clothing with stretchy fabrics molds to your body and give you more freedom of movement.

How can I find a balance between waist and length?

If your waist and inseam measurements don’t align with standard sizing, prioritize the waist for the best fit. Length can often be tailored.

How do I measure my bust and waist correctly?

  • To measure your bust, wrap a measuring tape around the fullest part of your chest, making sure it's parallel to the floor and not too tight.

  • For your waist, measure around the narrowest part of your torso, usually just above your belly button. Keep the tape comfortably snug but not tight, and make sure to stand naturally while measuring.

Fabric considerations

  • Stretchy fabrics, like spandex or elastane, give flexibility and comfort so clothes move with the body, often providing a more fitted, figure-hugging look.

  • Rigid fabrics like cotton or denim have little to no stretch, providing more structure and durability.

  • Stretchy fabrics are perfect for activewear or bodycon styles, while rigid fabrics are better for classic, tailored pieces like blouses or jeans that retain their shape over time.
