What is Americana Style?

Put simply, Americana is all about colours, patterns, silhouettes, graphics and fabrics that celebrate America’s cultural heritage, history, folklore and geography. Like many trends, Americana styling is centred around the same deep-rooted foundations but takes on infinite reinterpretations from brands like The Stronghold, as the current cultural landscape evolves. Think of our latest collab as ‘21st century Americana’.

Retro Collegiate

Harvard, Yale, Princeton… America is home to some of the most prestigious universities in the world but luckily getting these collegiate-inspired looks doesn’t require a 4.0 GPA. Originating from Harvard university in 1865, the varsity jacket has taken on many different variations and names. Also known as a ‘Letterman Jacket’ the early-dated sports staple showcased collegiate or athletic affiliations with an initials patch on the left breast. Our Stronghold varsity jacket features oversized ‘SH’ patch, crest and lettering, while the contrast piping and buttons add a retro look and feel.

Lumberjack-Inspired Layering

The OG Americana staple was first worn by North American lumberjacks in the 19th and 20th century and adds a pop of print and colour to our new-in collab in the form of unisex check overshirts and jackets. Layer over basic tees and men’s chino shorts, or team with cargo trousers, beanies and smart shoes for a warm-toned workwear-inspired look for day or night.

America is infamous for its world heritage sites and what better way to draw upon the call of the great outdoors than in classic outerwear pieces and cold-weather accessories.
