We caught up with Smokey to find out more about his roots, why Primark was the perfect spot for his northern outpost, what he loves about his work and more.

What’s the vision for Primark x Smokey?

Our partnership could really help make change in the local communities of Manchester and Birmingham. I believe we can help some young people get on the right path so that’s what we are trying to do. Long term? I see us opening in Europe. I see us opening in the States. Anything is possible when the right team is present, am I right?

How does it feel to watch your brand grow?

These are exciting times, we are growing with today’s customers, especially the new generation. We are trying to make Smokey X Primark feel like a hub rather than a barbershop, somewhere customers can come and talk about their day.

What makes Smokey x Primark different from every other barber shop?

I think we are cooler. I think customers enjoy the experience. We hope it’s not just our haircuts they come down for, it’s about the vibe, the welcome, we’re here to make the customer feel special and we hook them up with a proper cut.

Tell us about your iconic gold gas mask..

The reason behind the gold mask is, it’s not about me, it’s about what we are doing. The haircuts speak for themselves; it doesn’t matter who is cutting who.

What do you credit your success to?

Word spread by us just doing the right thing. If you are doing everything from the heart then people spread the love and we are forever grateful that people love what we are doing, and wanted to keep us going.
