Our Skincare Promise
At Primark, we are constantly expanding our range with products that can be used with all skin types – even the most sensitive. That’s why we dermatologically and ophthalmologically test our formulations. But what does that entail?
Quality ingredients are at the heart of a good beauty routine. From morning to night, a range of active ingredients, formulas and treatments are applied onto our skin to improve its health and appearance. We put our trust into all our skincare – and that’s why, at Primark we want to assure our customers that our products are dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested, before they reach your beauty shelf.
What Legal Testing Do We Do?
In the UK, our cosmetic ingredients are safety assessed and regulated by the Cosmetic Products Enforcement Regulation 2013. This process involves a legally qualified assessor evaluating the safety of each product and creating a human health assessment.

So, what does this mean for YOUR skin? Everybody is different and has different concerns. From blemish-prone to dull and dehydrated, our mild and gentle formulations can be used with all skin types – even the most sensitive. That’s why, as a cosmetic supplier, we dermatologically and ophthalmologically test our products. But what does that entail?
What Does Dermatological Tested Mean?
Dermatological testing involves a robust clinical trial. The Human Repeat Insult Patch Test (HRIPT) requires approximately 20 human volunteers to be frequently monitored and assessed by a qualified dermatologist. For products to pass the testing, their skin must present no signs of redness or swelling in response to the ingredients. This process is conducted 4 times.
What Does Ophthalmological Tested Mean?
Ophthalmologists are medical professionals who specialise in eye health. Ophthalmological testing involves a clinical trial in which eye products are tested on approximately 20 human volunteers, who will apply the product twice a day for 28 days. An examination of the eyes and eye area is conducted before and after the procedure. For the products to pass the testing, they must present no negative signs or symptoms, which the volunteers will grade using a questionnaire.
