How To Make Your Wedding Makeup Last
Wedding season's just around the corner... Bring your bridal makeup mood board to life with our beauty products.
You’ve found the perfect dress and bought beautiful bridal lingerie for your honeymoon... now let’s talk makeup. It’s widely debated whether booking a pro makeup artist tops the wedding day prep list, so doing your makeup yourself can be a positive alternative. For one thing, it's cost-efficient. Plus, you’ll have full control over your glam (saving you from any last-minute disappointments).
For brides-to-be, bridesmaids, maids of honor and guests, we’ve curated an edit of affordable skincare: makeup products and tools to help make sure you look amazing and feel your best for the ceremony right through the reception and beyond. The recommended wedding day beauty look? Soft glam makeup. The middle ground between a no-makeup look and full-on glam, this monochrome mood is timeless (bonus: it photographs well).
Step 1: Prep and Prime Your Skin
Your wedding day beauty prep should start a few weeks in advance, so your complexion stays balanced, smooth and hydrated. Start by exfoliating your skin once or twice a week, followed by regularly replenishing and repairing your skin with hyaluronic, niacinamide and salicylic acid to boost its moisture levels. Take notes on our PS… Blemish Back Spray: it’s a must-have if you’re not feeling totally confident about your backless dress. You’re welcome. :-)
The secret to making sure your makeup lasts all day? Primer. Using our gripping or smoothing primer is key to creating a barrier between your foundation and your skin, so sweat, dirt and oils don’t break through. It also prevents any creases or buildup on your special day (esp in photos).
Step 2: Classic Eye Makeup
As much as we love playful makeup, the classic smoky eye look works for everyone – and can be enough to make your eyes pop without doing too much. Start by soaping and brushing up your brows to create a more sculptured look, then apply a light brown eyeshadow on your eyelids.
Next, take a darker brown shade from one of our eyeshadow palettes and blend into the outer corners. For a pop of color, smudge one of our cream pink or gold shimmers into the center of your eyelid and inner corner for a mesmerizing soft gaze. Finish with our new-in Aqua Lash Mascara (FYI, it’s waterproof).
Step 3: Foundation and Concealer
Creating the perfect base with a photo-ready finish is a must. A weightless but high-medium coverage formula like our Flawless Glow Foundation will help create a seamless, radiant complexion for your soft glam look. It’s a Yes from us...
The holy grail for creating a flawless base... Concealer is a versatile product that can help eliminate dark circles and blur away blemishes. For your eyes, go for a lightweight concealer that's one shade lighter than your skin tone for a brighter, lifted complexion. For blemishes, use a concealer in a foundation-matching color. Gently pat around the skin using your fingertip or a concealer brush to remove the redness.
Step 4: Bronzer, Blush and Highlighter
Summer weddings need sun-kissed, glowy makeup. And we have a huge variety of products to help you nail the beach-bride look. First things first: bronzer. Buff and blend a cream bronzer along your cheekbones, hairline and jawline with a fluffy kabuki brush. This hint of warmth will sculpt your features and create a diffused, radiant finish.
Having flushed cheeks oozes romance. Giving your bridal makeup a little color to complement your skin tone will instantly add a healthy-looking glow. Buff and blend a light pink, coral or nude powder or cream blush down your cheekbones. Finish by sweeping a sheer golden or silver highlighter on the bridge of your nose, and voila: Hello, glass skin look...
Step 5: Lips
Chances are you’ll have to touch up your lipstick a few times on your wedding day (especially after the ceremony...), so a compact lipstick or gloss is a must. Our go-to? The PS… Pink Vitamin Lip Oil, PS… Lip And Cheek Tint and PS…Sweet Talk Matte Lipstick. These glossy nudes give a flattering clean-girl pop of color that suits every skin tone (and won’t overpower your wedding look). Perfect.
Step 6: Setting Powder and Spray
Now you’ve created your beautiful bridal glam, it’s time to lock it in. With dancing, eating and LOTS of socializing, we want to make sure your makeup stays fresh and flawless all day long. Take your pick from our affordable loose setting powders and powder puffs to dab, smooth and set your foundation in place while eliminating creases. The best part?
Setting spray is an essential for extending the wear of your makeup and giving it a hydrating, transfer-free finish. Spritz our PS…Prep & Perfect Makeup Setting Spray infused with soothing aloe vera over your makeup, a MUA-approved finishing touch to help soothe and moisturize your skin.
