Caring For Your Swimwear
Read on for helpful hacks to make your fave swimsuits and bikinis look better for longer.
Unless you’re really lucky, you probably don't need swimwear all year round. The key to making it last summer after summer? Caring for it correctly. From rinsing it post-pool to storage between vacays, read on for our guide to keeping your swimwear looking great.
Rinse It
After sporting your swimwear, don't store it scrunched up. Instead, rinse it as soon as you can to make sure it’ll stay in perfect condition. Remember: sunlight, salt water and chlorine can fade and discolor swimwear. Rinsing after use in fresh cold water will prevent this and help your swimwear look its best for longer.
Wash it
Whenever possible, wash your swimwear after wearing it. Turn your swimwear inside out and machine wash at 90° – this temp's kinder to your clothes (and the environment, too). Try to wash tops and bottoms from a bikini set together, and take out any removable pads so they stay in the best condition. For extra care wash your swimwear in a pillowcase or mesh bag.
Don’t Wring It
Avoid wringing out your swimwear to get rid of excess water: it can result in it losing its shape. When drying, place it on a smooth surface – rougher, bumpy surfaces can damage the fabric.
Dry it
Once your washing machine cycle's done, don’t leave your swimwear in there for too long. Remove and place out to dry on a flat surface, away from direct heat and bright sunlight. Avoid hanging your swimwear on a washing line: it can affect the shape.
Store it
Keep your swimwear in a cool, dry area away from direct heat (with your underwear is the perfect spot).
